• The key notes of now and next: The report begins with an ‘at a glance’ trend tracking update, helping you and the team discover the key fragrance trends disrupting and influencing the market. We then break this down further focusing on the key trends within men’s, women’s and genderless scent themes before going into the 11 exclusive trend stories.

• Macrotrend: A trans-seasonal shift: Throughout the report you will see how interconnected each trend story is – as wider consumer trends overlap and influence scent preferences. The Q3 report captures summer scents which, normally, involve fresh and clean or ‘beachy’ only scents – except this year the perfume world has different ideas! We still have summer editions of popular juices from brands such as Issey Miyake, but this season the focus seems to be on wood notes and dazzling fruits with an abundance of sun blushed berries and flowers, flowers, flowers with a tropical heatwave undertone.

• Strategic implications: Despite all the world and financial worries, scent is still a globally strong and growing market. This report provides a trend framework, breaking down the new launches into categories and trend stories to help you and the team focus on creating new scents, answering briefs and bringing new products to the market across all fragrance sectors.

• The 34 page report contents includes: 11 exclusive Trend Stories to explore, with fragrance descriptions, notes and innovative new ideas for products and ranges in our ‘future fragrance focus’ section on every trend board.

This report forms part of our suite of annual macro forecasts looking at fragrance trends and forecasting the new focus notes and ingredients for the future. Scents that evoke mood, moments and memory explored through the lens of travel and ingredients of provenance are still a key trend driver in the fragrance market. Upcycled ingredients are answering the ‘eco-focus’ demands of the consumer market as well as the continual drive for scents with additional wellbeing benefit. This Summer season sees a contrast in notes – bright and sun infused flowers, petals and blossoms meet fruity ouds and sun tanned leathers, whilst luminous musk scents meet soft woods – especially sandalwood. Cherry, strawberry and raspberry notes brightened Summer launches as did an abundance of orange blossom, mandarin, pomelo and solar infused orange notes.

The rise of trans-seasonal

Leather, woods and resins have found new ground as they are teamed with citrus notes and fruits – moving over what we would call ‘traditional seasonal notes’ into new territory.

skin musks trend

Skin Musks

The ‘clean skin’ scent amplified by musks, and in fact musk notes in general are having a ‘moment’ in fragrance. Its the snuggly and comfortable, yet sweet and enticing – and entirely personal play of contrasts that the musk theme inspires.

oud fragrance trends

Intensity

Bright and vibrant fruits are a trend carrying over from Spring 2022, with cherry being a favourite note. We are seeing bold fruits and moody florals merge with darker notes like oud to make for extra intense Summer scents.

Summer Experiences

The ‘sunshine’ theme we saw so abundantly in Spring got sweeter in the Summer. White florals still ruled with tropical infused updates and sweetened petals and blossoms that were bright and warm.
